What to look for in an IT support company
By Adam Davis
Your IT support company can significantly impact your business, from the efficiency of daily operations and processes to profitability and planning for the future. That’s why it’s so important to choose the right one.
Assessing technical expertise and experience
Ask whether they have any specific knowledge related to your industry. This will help you determine if they can understand your business needs and regulatory requirements more easily.
Check all their certifications and qualifications to see if they are experts in the service areas you will need.
Understand the range of services they offer and see if they can comprehensively serve your business needs and any future expansions or changes.
Read their case studies and client testimonials closely, especially for clients in similar industries as yours. How they have solved their problems should be a good indication of how they can solve yours. They should also be open to you contacting their past clients with further questions.
Availability and response times
Does your organization need 24/7 support? Make sure they offer that for clients. What are their typical response and resolution times? What support options are available on-site, and which ones are remote?
Evaluate their communication channels and escalation procedures. Who will take care of what level of need?
Customization and flexibility of services
Assess possible tailored IT solutions for your business. Can you get the services you need without being stuck with many extra services you won’t need?
Some of this would be outlined in a Service Level Agreement. This contract between IT service providers and their customers defines the services provided and what performance can be expected. It will explain how performance will be measured and the consequences of not meeting those performance levels.
Evaluate the potential for a long-term partnership between the IT support company and your organization. Can they help you with plans like moving to virtual employees or expansion plans?
